The 28 October desktop update introduces Projects in public preview for ongoing work across repositories or without one. Computer use has separate local-session and permission controls; app access does not establish an included usage allowance. Read the announcement and scope.

GitHub announced a voluntary access model on 28 October for eligible account-team-managed enterprises. Included access does not include metered AI usage. Self-serve subscriptions are unchanged. How we would evaluate it
Copilot deserves a place on the shortlist when GitHub issues and pull requests already organize the team’s work. Keeping an agent task beside the issue and resulting review can reduce handoff friction. That is different from claiming it produces better code than a separate editor. Check the exact supported editor and organization policy, then compare an identical maintenance task. For a solo developer, the lower individual subscription is useful only if the included allowance covers the work; for a team, central policy and auditability can outweigh a small seat-price difference.
