A new button is only part of the cost
This week’s releases put AI inside more of the software people already use. The useful question is whether the feature uses an existing subscription, a separate meter or a different billing account.
Three current documentation checks show why those fields need to stay separate.
Copilot in Xcode: check the software requirement
GitHub’s 4 November preview supports all Copilot plans in Xcode’s built-in assistant. It requires Xcode 27.3 beta and macOS Tahoe 26.6 or later. Plan support does not establish an unlimited allowance. GitHub’s access announcement and Apple’s release notes describe the requirements.
Our Xcode report keeps the integration requirements separate from Copilot’s existing prices.
Copilot in Air: the usage belongs to Copilot
GitHub’s 3 November Air integration uses a Copilot subscription for cloud tasks, rather than JetBrains AI credits. Cloud access also requires an Air Teams-enabled business organization and administrator permission.
Air’s usage analytics and spending limits do not cover Copilot. A task cannot choose between your personal and organization Copilot plan. Read the billing and control limitations; our Air report gives the wider context.
Images 2.6: subscription access and API billing differ
OpenAI’s 4 November launch covers ChatGPT and Codex across subscription tiers. Its Flare and Sunburst API variants have separate Standard token rates. Neither tier access nor a token rate establishes a price per image.
Read the launch announcement, API price table and our access and cost report. No subscription saving or output-quality result is implied.
Use a four-field billing check
- Access: which plan, editor version and administrator permission are needed?
- Usage: which credit pool, limit or API meter does the feature consume?
- Bill: which provider and account charge for that usage?
- Control: where can you see usage and set any supported limit?
Download the blank billing worksheet (CSV). It is a local worksheet, not a connected account audit. Leave unknown charges blank until you have a dated source or an invoice.
For supported recurring plans, check your subscriptions. For a separately entered API or hosting bill, use the stack cost calculator. The Copilot profile preserves its own price dates. Today’s source receipts.
