What You'll Build

A structured TikTok content strategy with a planning system, branded templates, scheduled posts, and an analytics-driven iteration process.

Prerequisites

Architecture

Notion is your strategy and planning hub where you manage ideas, scripts, and publishing schedules. Canva creates visual assets like video covers, text overlays, and carousel graphics. Later handles scheduling posts in advance and provides analytics on performance.

Notion (plan & script) → Record (phone) → Canva (graphics) → Later (schedule & analyze)

4 Steps

1
Notion

Plan your content strategy and niche in Notion

~30 min

Define your TikTok positioning, content pillars, and set up a planning system for consistent posting.

  1. Create a "TikTok" workspace in Notion with sections: Strategy, Content Calendar, Ideas Backlog, and Analytics
  2. Define your niche and target audience: who are you making content for, and what value do they get?
  3. Choose 3-4 content pillars (recurring themes) - for example: tips, behind-the-scenes, trends, and storytelling
  4. Build a Content Calendar database with columns: Video Idea, Content Pillar, Script/Outline, Status, Publish Date, and Performance
  5. Brainstorm 20 video ideas across your content pillars - aim for a 2-week buffer of ideas at all times
💡
Tip: Study the top 10 creators in your niche. Note their content pillars, posting frequency, and which videos get the most engagement. Model what works, then add your unique perspective.

Create video templates and graphics in Canva

~20 min

Build branded templates for video covers, text overlays, and carousel posts that give your TikTok a consistent, professional look.

  1. Open Canva and create templates at 1080x1920px (TikTok's vertical video format)
  2. Design a branded video cover template with your brand colors, fonts, and a space for a title
  3. Create 2-3 text overlay templates for educational content (bold text on colored backgrounds)
  4. Build a carousel/photo template if you plan to post image-based content
  5. Save all templates to a Canva folder called "TikTok Templates" for quick access during batch creation
💡
Tip: Consistency in visual style builds brand recognition. When someone scrolls and sees your video, they should recognize it is yours before even reading your name.
3
Later

Schedule and plan posts with Later

~15 min

Connect your TikTok account to Later and set up a posting schedule so content goes out consistently without daily effort.

  1. Sign up for Later and connect your TikTok account (you need a TikTok Business account for direct scheduling)
  2. Set a posting schedule: start with 3-5 posts per week at peak engagement times (typically 7-9 AM, 12-3 PM, or 7-11 PM)
  3. Upload your first batch of videos and add captions with relevant hashtags (3-5 niche hashtags + 1-2 broad ones)
  4. Use Later's visual planner to preview how your profile grid will look
  5. Enable push notifications so Later reminds you when it is time to post if direct publishing is not available for your account type
💡
Tip: Batch create content once a week instead of daily. Film 5-7 videos in one session, edit them, and schedule them all in Later. This frees up the rest of your week.

Analyze performance and iterate

~15 min

Review your analytics weekly to understand what works, double down on winners, and cut what does not perform.

  1. Check Later's analytics dashboard weekly for views, engagement rate, and follower growth
  2. Log your top-performing videos in your Notion Analytics section with the metrics: views, likes, comments, shares, and watch time
  3. Identify patterns: which content pillar, format, or topic consistently gets the most engagement?
  4. Create more content in the style of your top performers - double down on what the algorithm rewards
  5. Drop content types that consistently underperform after giving them at least 5-10 attempts
💡
Tip: Watch time is TikTok's most important metric. If people watch your full video, the algorithm pushes it to more viewers. Hook them in the first 1-2 seconds and keep the pace fast.
