How we would evaluate it
Obsidian is a strong candidate when the notes belong primarily to one person and portability matters more than a shared workspace interface. Local files give you a direct exit route, but you also own backups and the plugin choices that shape the vault. Start with core features before adding a complicated plugin stack. If the real requirement is simultaneous team coordination, a personal knowledge vault may introduce extra process rather than replace it. For research notes and long-lived writing, test whether you can still navigate and read the files outside the app.
