OpenAI restructured its pricing on April 9 by adding a $100/month Pro plan targeting power users and developers. The new plan offers five times the Codex access available on Plus, with the same model lineup as the top tier. A promotional period through May 31 temporarily doubles that to ten times Plus-level Codex usage.
The timing is deliberate. Anthropic Claude Max plan has been pulling developer attention, and OpenAI is responding with a mid-tier option designed to keep heavy Codex users from switching. Codex has crossed three million weekly users as of April 8, claiming 5x growth in three months.
If you are paying for Plus and hitting Codex limits, the new Pro tier is worth evaluating - the launch promo makes the first two months particularly cost-effective.
