Google Cloud Next 2026 bets the platform on agents with A2A protocol and Workspace Studio

Google's keynote was the cleanest articulation yet of the agent-first enterprise thesis: a unified protocol for agents to call other agents (A2A), a Workspace Studio for building and deploying agents against Gmail/Docs/Sheets, and a dedicated inbox where humans review agent work in the same place they read email. The pitch is that enterprises will run dozens of agents, and they need infrastructure that treats agent output as a first-class artifact rather than a chat transcript.

The competitive read is that Google is trying to out-scope OpenAI and Anthropic by shipping a full-stack enterprise offering - identity, data, protocol, surface - rather than just a better model. For most founders that is still too heavy, but for teams already on Workspace the new Studio is the first time Google's AI offering is a serious Copilot competitor.

Founder Takeaway

If your company runs on Google Workspace, Workspace Studio is worth a pilot in Q2. Skip it if you are Microsoft 365 - Copilot is still the better path.
