Google begins bringing reusable skills into Gemini chat
Skills save repeatable instructions; Google publishes a staged transition from Gems.
What was announced
Google’s 30 September announcement introduces reusable skills inside Gemini chat. A skill can save instructions, include reference files and be invoked with a slash command. Google describes a global chat rollout and a later Workspace rollout. Skills will replace Gems on a schedule that differs between personal, business and education accounts, with automatic migration described by Google. The transition also affects the Opal experiment. Account-specific availability and migration instructions matter more than treating the announcement as an immediate change for every user.
