Codex updates follow-up steering during active work

OpenAI records a faster response to follow-ups and a setting for steering or queuing them.

What was announced

OpenAI’s 8 October release notes record a Codex update to handling follow-up instructions during a run. The notes say responses to those instructions can arrive sooner. A General setting lets users choose whether follow-ups steer the active turn or enter a queue. This is an interaction change, rather than a new claim about generated code quality. Check the setting in your own client and decide how you want corrections delivered during long tasks.

Before adopting it

Keep requirements and acceptance checks in the task so that an interruption does not silently change what counts as finished.
