AI website builders promise to create your entire site from a text prompt. I tested that promise by building the same type of site - a consulting business homepage with about page, services, testimonials, and contact form - with five different AI builders. The results ranged from impressive to embarrassing.

Here is what I found, ranked by the quality of what each tool actually produced.

The quick verdict

Best overall: Framer - produces the best-looking sites with the most design flexibility. The AI generates a solid starting point, and the visual editor lets you refine every detail.

Best for speed: Durable - generates a complete website in under 30 seconds. The fastest path from nothing to a live site.

Best for SEO: Hostinger Website Builder - solid AI generation with built-in SEO tools and affordable hosting bundled in.

Best for WordPress users: 10Web - AI-powered WordPress site builder. If you want WordPress but do not want to design from scratch.

How I tested

Each builder got the same prompt: a consulting business called "GreenPath Advisory" offering sustainability consulting to small businesses. I gave each tool the business name, a description of services, and a target audience. Then I evaluated the output on design quality, mobile responsiveness, load speed, SEO readiness, and how easy it was to customize the result.

Framer - the design winner

Framer started as a prototyping tool for designers and evolved into a full website builder. The AI site generation is good, but what makes Framer special is what happens after generation. The visual editor is the most powerful of any website builder I have tested. You can adjust layouts, typography, spacing, animations, and responsive breakpoints with precision that rivals custom code.

The AI-generated site looked professional out of the box. Clean typography, good spacing, proper hierarchy. It needed about 30 minutes of refinement to match a specific brand, but the foundation was solid. Compare that to other builders where the AI output needs hours of work to look acceptable.

Framer sites also perform well technically. They are static by default, which means fast load times and good Core Web Vitals scores. SEO basics are handled: clean URLs, meta tags, sitemap generation, and proper heading structure.

The learning curve is steeper than simpler builders. Framer gives you more control, which means more decisions. If you want a site in five minutes with zero customization, Framer is overkill. If you want a site that looks like a designer built it, Framer is the tool.

Pricing: Free plan with Framer subdomain. Basic at $5/month. Pro at $15/month with custom domain.

Durable - the speed champion

Durable generates a complete website in under 30 seconds. Not a placeholder. A full site with pages, copy, images, and a color scheme based on your business type. The speed is remarkable.

The generated sites look decent. Not award-winning, but perfectly serviceable for a local business, freelancer, or early-stage startup. Durable also generates the business copy for you, which is surprisingly readable. It will not win any copywriting awards, but it is better than the blank page most founders stare at.

Durable bundles in a CRM, invoicing, and appointment scheduling. For a solo service provider who needs a website plus basic business tools, this all-in-one approach is appealing. One subscription, one login, everything connected.

The limitation is design flexibility. The customization options are limited compared to Framer or even Wix. You can change colors, fonts, and images, but the layout options are constrained. If you want something that looks unique, Durable will not get you there.

Pricing: Starter at $12/month. Business at $20/month with CRM and invoicing.

Wix AI - the familiar platform

Wix added AI site generation to its existing builder, and the integration is smooth. You answer a few questions about your business, and Wix generates a complete site using its template system. The result benefits from years of template refinement. The layouts work, the sections are well-organized, and the mobile version is solid.

Where Wix excels is in the ecosystem around the website. Need a blog? Built in. Need e-commerce? Built in. Need booking? Built in. Need email marketing? Built in. For a founder who wants everything in one platform, Wix is hard to beat on breadth of features.

The downside is performance. Wix sites tend to load slower than Framer or custom-built sites. The code is heavier, and the page speed scores reflect it. For a local business site, this does not matter much. For a site where SEO is critical, the performance gap is worth considering.

Pricing: Free plan with Wix ads. Light at $17/month. Core at $29/month.

Hostinger Website Builder - the value pick

Hostinger's AI builder combines website generation with affordable hosting. You get a domain, hosting, email, and an AI-built site for less than most competitors charge for the builder alone.

The AI generation produces clean, simple sites. Nothing flashy, but everything works. The pages load fast because Hostinger optimizes hosting performance. The SEO tools are built in and straightforward: meta tags, alt text, sitemap, and a checklist that guides you through optimization.

For founders who want a professional web presence without spending more than $3-4/month, Hostinger is the best value. The site will not look as polished as a Framer build, but it will look professional enough for most business purposes.

Pricing: Premium plan at $3/month (with annual billing) includes hosting, domain, and builder.

10Web - the WordPress AI builder

10Web generates WordPress sites using AI. You describe your business, and it creates a full WordPress site with pages, sections, and content. The output runs on actual WordPress, which means you get access to the entire WordPress plugin ecosystem.

This is the right choice for founders who know they want WordPress but do not want to start with a blank theme. The AI gives you a foundation, and then you can customize with any WordPress tool, plugin, or theme modification. The flexibility of WordPress with the speed of AI generation.

The tradeoff is that you are still running WordPress. That means updates, security patches, plugin compatibility, and all the maintenance that comes with the platform. For founders who are comfortable with WordPress, this is fine. For those who want zero maintenance, a hosted builder like Framer or Wix is simpler.

Pricing: AI Builder at $10/month. Hosting included.

What about Squarespace and Webflow?

Squarespace and Webflow are excellent website builders, but their AI features are limited compared to the dedicated AI builders. Squarespace has AI text generation and image suggestions, but it does not generate entire sites. Webflow has no AI generation at all. Both are great tools, but if your primary goal is AI-powered site creation, the tools listed above are better starting points.

Bottom line

For the best-looking AI-generated site, use Framer. For the fastest path to a live site, use Durable. For the most features at the lowest price, use Hostinger. For WordPress with AI assistance, use 10Web.

A word of honest advice: AI website builders are good enough for most business websites today. If you are spending more than a day building a website for your startup, you are over-investing. Get something live, start driving traffic, and refine based on what your visitors actually do.
