Our evaluation

Supabase Auth is especially coherent when the application already uses Supabase Postgres and needs identity to connect closely with data access. Authentication supplies a user and session; Row Level Security can then enforce which records that user may read or change. Those policies still have to be designed and tested. A successful login does not prove that two customers are isolated. The free monthly-active-user allowance is useful for a pilot, but production costs also depend on the platform plan, compute and delivery providers. SSO and advanced authentication features have separate meters or add-ons. Evaluate recovery, logout and expired sessions alongside the happy path. A team adopting only authentication should consider whether the platform dependency and its operating model suit the rest of its architecture.

What the documentation confirms

  • Support passwords, magic links, one-time passwords and social identity providers.
  • Use JWT authentication with Postgres Row Level Security.
  • Regular monthly active users, SSO users and advanced authentication add-ons have distinct billing scopes.
