Jira is justified when work needs an explicit lifecycle that several teams can understand and audit. It is less compelling when the team cannot agree what its statuses mean. Start with the smallest workflow that reflects real decisions, then add fields only when somebody uses the information. Boards and backlogs provide a useful shared structure; unconstrained customization can make the tracker harder to maintain than the work itself. I would choose Standard for a concrete permissions or growth requirement and evaluate Premium against a real cross-team planning problem. Included AI is an allowance, not an unlimited substitute for project ownership. Budget from actual seats and billing rules, including the month's maximum assigned quantity, instead of multiplying an old advertised starting price by today's headcount.
Teams with a defined delivery lifecycle, access requirements and shared backlog.
Paid monthly rates are progressive and use maximum assigned seats; Marketplace apps may add cost. The dynamic calculator did not expose a dependable single paid rate in this check.
