Ahrefs is easier to justify when research feeds a recurring publishing or technical SEO decision, rather than a one-off curiosity about competitor traffic. A useful operating rhythm is to choose a small keyword set, inspect the actual competing pages, fix crawl issues and revisit the same evidence after publishing. The different historical windows matter if you need to explain a long decline; the lowest plan may not retain enough history. Its estimates should be treated as directional market evidence, then reconciled with first-party analytics for your own site. Choose the tier from the reports, history and export volume you will actually use, and account for extra seats and optional products separately.
