What Hiring Managers Actually Look For
Excel is tested in interviews
Practice under pressure. Many finance interviews include a live Excel test, timed spreadsheet exercises, model building, or data analysis. Practise with real datasets and a timer running.
Know your financial statements
Get comfortable with the P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow statement. Understand how they connect. This is the bare minimum, if you can't walk through these fluently, you won't get past round one.
Qualifications open senior doors
ACCA/ACA/CIMA (UK) or CPA (US) are the golden tickets. Even being "part-qualified" significantly boosts your CV. Start early, the ROI on these certifications is enormous.
